THE WORLD OF HARROWSVALE
Beyond our world through the town of Willowberry Creek nestled in the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts lies the magical world of Harrowsvale. It's lands and kingdoms are made up of various Fae folk, Elves, and other creatures we consider mythical. Humans native to our world have crossed over as well and through all the adversity have found a place to call home. Those humans brought their gods who reside in the unseen Ethereal Vale. Many Earthly gods were abandoned by their followers so they found a place within this new world.
The world once served as a prison for undesirables from the faerie lands of Ambriel. Fae were banished for mating with demons and becoming Hellions. The Hellions within Harrowsvale are descended from them as are most of the fae from Nightfang Hallow. Ambriel's law of death or exile is still in effect and often sends people through the portal. The portal back is lost and the great titan tree that housed it has been dead for many generations, long before the dynasties of Harrowsvale were known.
SPECIES
Pure Fae: They had been banished long ago from their homeland of Ambriel. The ones considered pure within the Hallow were once Hellions themselves. All of the clans once held demon blood and pushed for years to purify themselves. They may have purified the demonic traits, but those roots run deep and they've forgotten the demons within themselves.
Hellion Fae: Any Fae who retains their demonic traits is considered a Hellion. It is said the remaining Hellions are the reason they cannot return to Ambriel. Hellion fae often have multi colored hair, fangs, horns, or other traits that make them look fearsome. Many consider Hellions to be the stronger breed. Their ability to harness dark magic without a cost makes them especially feared.
Familiars: They originate as spirits who inhabit the bodies of animals. Where and what these spirits are remains a mystery. Many believe they're the souls of fallen fae or deities that have long been forgotten. While they retain their animalistic nature, they are able to understand the language of their masters.
Goblins: Redcaps, goblins, and hobgoblins all fall under the Goblin category. The Redcaps are notoriously violent creatures famous for killing travelers, eating them, and coating their hats in the victims blood. Goblins are still fearsome, but not as feral as their red hatted cousins. Hobgoblins are generally friendly and fit into society quite well. The Elken clan of Hobgoblins rule the city of Elkenshire, a peaceful market town in the south east of Eventide Borough.
NATIONS
Nightfang Hallow: Ruled by the Nightfang clan, it was taken from the Morningstar Elven Dynasty. The Fae found themselves mistreated by the Elves and decided to build a kingdom for themselves. Those Fae were of demonic origins and over time came to value purity above all else. The further they grew obsessed with purity, the weaker they became.
Morningstar Valley: What remains of the Morningstar elves reside in a small part of their once great empire. At the end of the Fae invasion they forged great cliffs to keep the Fae out of their land. While many see the purist regime of the Hallow to be troublesome, it's nothing compared to the ruling class of the Valley. The impure are murdered on the spot and burned to keep the land safe from darkness.
Eventide Borough: During the Hellion and Fae invasion, the other peoples weren't left out. Merchants paid for great armies to defend the north. Hobgoblins, Elves, Fae, and even humans live in peace. As the Borough believes first in profits, they welcome business from the Earthly realm. Smugglers are paid to bring human goods in through the portal to be sold at the markets.
Freefolk Forest Federation: It may have four major cities, but the heart of the Freefolk are in the villages. As the world changed many creatures preferred to stick to their roots. They live in small woodland villages scattered around the forests. The four cities of Varen, Sophia, Vithryl, and Morai were erected to protect them from Eventide Borough and Morningstar Valley.
